The Baltimore Playwrights Festival: Fundraiser at Creative Alliance 6/27/2009

The Creative Alliance is hosting a BPF and Write Here Write Now fundraiser
"7 x 10"
Saturday, June 27, 2009.

We will present staged readings of seven 10-minute plays by local playwrights beginning at 8:00 PM.
Tickets: $12 non-members and $10 for CA & BPF members (memberships will be on sale at the door).

Transitional music provided by Adam Trice of Red Sammy

Creative Alliance permits food in the theater -- in fact there are tables to sit at (nightclub atmosphere) -- CA also has a bar!!! So we recommend grabbing a pizza at Mathew's across the street, and enjoying a dinner with the show.

Leo Horrigan
Tony Gallahan A sendup of both local television news and the foibles of would-be revolutionaries, this ten-minute play shows characters rapidly remaking themselves to match the incentives and disincentives with which they are presented - be they career opportunities or romantic ones. They buy in or sell out in a high- speed marketplace for love and politics. The characters are over the top but not over anyone's head. You'll recognize them - well, somewhat.

Short, Sweet and Full of Treats: Review by Robin Rouse from the BTA blog

This was an evening of staged readings; yet the plays were so wonderfully directed that I often forgot the actors were reading scripts. With pieces written by such noted notables as Rosemary Frisino Toohey, Rich Espey and Mark Scharf along with Leo Horrigan, Terry Kenney, Michael Stang and Lindsay Reed, the evening was definitely full of insightful, challenging and imaginative stories; living up to the lofty goal of delivering something for everyone. Add in wonderful actors who approached these short plays with the same commitment as to full-lengths and it was, without a doubt, a very satisfying seven-course meal.
